WAP news and updates...
April 2009
It’s all go go go……
March and April seemed to be the months for exhibitions, road shows
and open days. It all started when WAP were asked to exhibit at
the Simply Outstanding Tourism Event which was held at Greshams School
on 26th March. The event was organised by the North Norfolk Business
Forum and the Tourism Round Table. All 7 area partnerships were asked
to exhibit to help promote their area, including attraction, unique selling
points, restaurants, accommodation etc. WAP spent several weeks working
with local businesses and specifically small businesses and local producers
who traditionally do not exhibited at these events or who could not afford
the price of a full stand. The event was a real success and WAP were
able to promote the wealth of great attractions found in the area with
the help of literature, sample products and information provided by the
many small businesses that got involved.
WAP have also been involved with the Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm Information
Day by helping the organisers promote the event to local businesses and
the general public, the Parish Fair and Wells Field Study Open Day where
the Environment Forum gave out energy saving light bulbs with the help
of an energy bike!
Over the last few months the WAP Environment Forum has been planning
a project that hopes to highlight the need for sustainable food within
the community. The forum is working with Wells Town Council to try and
set up a Growers Markets in Wells over the summer. The market will provide
a place where local growers i.e. allotment holders and gardeners can
sell there surplus produce and at the same time raise money for some
longer term environmental projects.
But I haven’t just been running around the county talking to people
at events, I have been doing some real work too! With the help of some
of the young people and staff from Alderman Peel High School, PSCO Becky
Taylor and I have got the first few CATS community project organised.
Young people in Walsingham will be holding a charity football match – young
people v the Wells Safer Neighbourhood Team and young people in Wells
will be carrying out a litter pick in the town. Both the CATS project
and the Waslingham Youth project are going well and we are all looking
forward to seeing PSCO Andy Dixon’s bruised shins after the Walsingham
football match!
