  1. LDF Core Strategy and Response

We have to respond between the 18th and 30th July.

LDF says that Wells is unsustainable.

WTC have already agreed their comment. They are concerned about the lack of industrial land.

Fi spoke to Polly Hind who said that there is no evidence that the comments made last time have been taken into consideration.
The comments from last time will not be carried forward and comments have to proven against set criteria.

LDF hasn’t taken into consideration that Dorrington House is about to produce 45 jobs for local people. Wells Community Hospital has plans to provide 40 – 50 jobs over the next two years.

Local Authority has said that in 2012 it anticipates the school role to be no lower than it is at present.  Just received Sports College status.

What about West Norfolk? Wells has a central position on the Norfolk coast and shouldn’t not be considered due to NNDC boundaries. Hospital catchment area set by department of health, from Sheringham to Hunstanton.

LDF descriptions do not make sense, from a thriving community to one that is relatively unsustainable.

Include in comment:
Affordable housing
Wind Farm
Agriculture
Young People – WYN – youth provision
Holkham Hall and estate growing commercially, good example of alternative use of agriculture, large employers of area, links with education, proof of growth and sustainability.
Walsingham shrine and estate
Childrens Centre growing, full day childcare, helping parents to go back to work, provides employment within community.
Hospital
Harbour

  1. Community wide survey update

Community consultation has taken place in both the High School and Primary School. All pupils were given a piece of brightly coloured card to draw around their hand on. They then wrote their ideas for the community inside their handprints.
Disposable cameras were handed out at this years Parish fair and to some pupils from Alderman Peel High School as part of the community consultation. The idea was for people to express their feelings about their community through photography.
Ideas were also collected through face to face interviews.

Consultation Day:
WAP to combine consultation with Children’s Centre and Maltings consultation.
Follow with an open exhibition in the Sackhouse.

Still need to do a paper survey and look into doing a survey of visitors to the area.

Address public toilets issue.

Fi and Chris meeting with Phillip Burton, chair of the District Council to talk about area forums.

WAP don’t want to take over the running of area forums but would like to involve parish and town councils in consultation.

Finish collating all information.

Fi to go ahead and start organising consultation day.

Convert material from handprints, Big Picture and face to face interviews into a paper survey. Cheryl and Peter to put some time into this.
