  • Item 3, Wells Business Forum. Peter Rainsford would like this rewritten to provide a more accurate account of the forum closer.

Matters Arising. Peter Rainsford highlighted that an action point from the last meeting was for him to provide up to date WAP account information for the 15th July meeting. This had been omitted as an agenda item and therefore Peter circulated a brief summery of the accounts to those members present.

  1. WAP Report – Project Update

  1. NNCP Asset Review of Wells

Fiona McCallum informed members that it was critical for WAP to become fully involved with the forthcoming asset review in Wells. The Partnership will form part of the ‘Wells Community Project Working Group’ along with representatives from Wells Town Council, North Norfolk Community Partnership, The Community Association and Norfolk County Council. Due to pressure from WAP the consultants brief now includes public owned buildings such as Wells Community Hospital as well as District owned assets such as The Maltings. Although £25k of funding has been allocated by NNCP the full asset review will be overseen by the Wells Community Project Group. The group are in the process of appointing consultants who will be responsible for carrying out the review.

The asset review was discussed at length. It was agreed that it was very importance for WAP to ensure the proposals for housing, the hospital, schools, social / sporting facilities and other priorities already identified for Wells arising from the extensive Community Consultation carried out by WAP, are included and recognized in the package to be developed by consultants for the "Wells Community Project". Members advised that; (a) a meeting with the consultants on these matters should be sought as soon as practicable, and (b) that the Project should also seek to exploit the potential in Wells for improving the town's profile as a visitor destination based upon its maritime heritage and environment"

FM to email a list of project group members to WAP members with minutes

     4. Round Robin

Pete Lynn – Environment Forum:
The Environment group has seen a reduction in numbers recently and now stands at only 3. A re launch is proposed for after the summer in the hope that community members will be encouraged to join the forum. The forum recognised that meetings needed to be held in public venues rather than member’s houses to ensure that meetings were more accessible to new members.

External speakers had been invited to recent meetings and all offered support in helping with carbon reduction and conservation improvements for Wells and the surrounding area.

The Forum have offered to look after the railway cutting – Wells Town Council to update with progress

Helen Millward – Children and Families:
The new Sure Start Children’s Centre is now open and the mobile toy library is already a great success. Funding has been agreed up until 2012 and many projects are planned for the coming months. They include new parent toddler groups for Burnham Market and Langham and a baby health care service is due to start in September. The aim of the Children’s Centre is to fill the gaps in current provision by providing services and facilities across the spectrum such as improving adult literacy, support for teenage mums, smoking cessation and sexual health advice.

John Stannard -  Workers Education association
The Workers Education Association has a branch in Wells and they are currently running 8 week courses on astronomy for beginners and the history of opera. Courses are very ‘member led’ with the association mainly responding to requests for courses in specific subjects. Members tend to be older people but there could be an opportunity to branch into informal adult education to provide an alternative structure for improving skills in the area.

Peter Rainsford – Health
Hospital Project – After some discussion with the Transport Department at NCC the bus route will not be altered to include a pick up and drop off point near the hospital.

The Hospital is in dialogue with Norfolk County Council’s Social Services and the PCT about becoming a health Care provider.

The Hospital now has two fully equipped meeting rooms holding from between 20 and 60 people.

Stiffkey garden opera – tickets available through the hospital

Nula Cooper – Youth Service
Young people from Wells have recently been involved in a missing persons training day for the police and are likely to continue to be involved in training sessions throughout the year.  We are in the process of training youth volunteers around issues such as child safety and relationship building in order to improve their work with young people.

Three volunteers are working with the Youth service to set up a facility for young people in Burnham Market.

The Youth service will be providing detached youth work over the summer period targeting specific young people and groups in Wells. In addition to this a summer Road Show will be providing 20 x 3hr sessions across the locality. The road show will provide sporting equipment, cards, safety information and outreach youth work to suit the needs of each area. It is hoped this approach will help promote a positive image of young people to other community members throughout summer.

Elaine Kelly – Extended Schools Programme:
Wells Community hospital is currently displaying an art exhibition from Wells High School. The exhibition includes work from both A Level and G.C.S.E level students and is being received very well.

The extended school programme is now being offered four days a week and there is to be a Parent Support Adviser based at the school from September.

Due to the schools sports specialist status, more community facilities are to be provided over the next few years, especially after the success of the Olympeel Games Day that was recently held.
