- Project Update
Housing:
Kate apologised to the Board as she had not worked
on the housing project since the last meeting. All
previous actions were still outstanding and would
be followed up over the next couple of months.
Environment Forum:
Pete Lynn explained that the group had decided not to
continue with the Carbon Footprint Survey as uptake
was so poor. Only 14 surveys had been completed on
line so far and there were no funds available to pursue
the option of printing and helping people fill in paper
copies. Previous funding bids had been unsuccessful.
The Forum have arranged for those people who did fill
in the survey to receive their individual carbon readings
and information about how to reduce their carbon footprint.
The Forum has also started to discuss projects that
relate to the Transition Town movement. It is keen to
deliver a project that highlights the need for sustainable
food. The forum would like to hold growers markets in
Wells where local growers i.e. allotment holders and
gardeners can sell there surplus produce throughout the
summer. This will have to be a joint project between
WAP and Wells Town Council; therefore Pete Lynn will
be presenting this as an idea to the Town Council at
their meeting in April. This project will hopefully attract
a lot of support from within the community and help the
Forum engage with a large number of local people, both
sellers and buyers. It will also act as a platform to
help them recruit new members and raise awareness of
climate change and the peak oil crisis.
The Environment Forum will also be having a stand at
the forthcoming Open Day at Wells Field Study Centre
(18th April). Members of the Forum will be giving away
energy saving light bulbs and demonstrating the energy
savings they can produce with the help of a bike!
Youth Project
Kate reported that both the CATS project and the Walsingham
Youth Project were going well. Kate and PCSO Becky
Taylor had spoken in school assemblies at APHS and
the CATS project was well supported by the young people.
The committee is due to meet for the first time at
the end of march and so far 15 young people have volunteered
to be involved with both the committee and community
projects.
The youth bus continues to visit Walsingham each weds
and reports from the Parish Council and local people
are that the project is starting to have some good results.
Anti Social Behaviour figures released by the Wells SNT
also show a reduction in incidents by young people.
Communication:
Kate presented a draft of the new e-newsletter and reported
that she had now received the training needed to produce
them. It was agreed that the newsletter would be sent
out to a very specific database consisting of key stakeholders,
partners, second home owners, community groups and
organisations in the WAP area. It would not be used
as a method of communicating with the general public
and traditional methods such as the Quay and website
would remain at the forefront of communication.
Childrens Centre:
Helen Millward asked if partners could keep her informed
of any upcoming event that they are involved with.
She would like to use these events to engage with fathers
and eventually create fathers forums for the area.
This sparked debate about having a calendar of events
published in the Quay. It was suggested that WAP could
write an article calling for all groups to put forward
dates of upcoming events so that WAP could collate this
information and create and Events Calendar. Kate felt
that WAP’s current workload would not allow for
this piece of work to be completed this summer but that
it was something that should be considered as part of
next years action plan. |
