Project review
Housing
Fran Marshall has now written the “How to Guide” and has been proof read and approved. Fran and I will be going to meet with the graphic designers and printers to complete the layout and text. The booklet will be available in PDF format to be downloaded from the WAP and homes for Wells Website and 2 copies will also be available free of charge to other market towns. I also managed to secure a grant of £500.00 through Towns for Towns exchange fund towards this project.
Hope and Smile Group
WAP went with the group to Norwich Castle recently. The next step for this group is to form a committee of people other than users, to offer support to the volunteers who run the group. From that a service level agreement with a local care home or care worker will be the next step, to ensure the group can run. The group is in the middle of a transition stage with the lady who runs the group. WAP are now assisting to form a committee and attend every Monday to help search and implement a new organiser.
- BF asked for discussion about this. The group is at high risk of closure due to the lady who runs it giving up.
- BF asked for permission to step in as a caretaker role for some time to find a new person to run the group.
- Due to the nature of the group BF felt it is important to not put in new people as the users have to get to know the people first.
- Board agreed to caretaker role.
Walsingham Youth project
This project has been continuing successfully throughout the past two months. It has now been agreed to start fund searching ready to begin phase 3 next year. Phase three will involve some of the older young people training and youth leaders to be able to run a youth club for the younger young people. This is an impressive step forward for these individuals.
CATS (Community Action Through Sport)
We have held a recruitment assembly at the school to the year 7 classes and will be holding another CATS committee meeting in the next two weeks to get the technology hour going. The CATS committee approved both Street cats and technology hour projects. They have also been approached by Wells in Bloom to assist with one of their projects.
Wells For the Future – Maltings Development
RHP consultants have now presented their idea at a public consultation. The idea is a development of the choice chosen by the public at the last meeting, which saw the new build relocated onto the car park site. The meeting was attended by 54 members of the public and some members of the steering group. The Maltings is now going into a more business case part of the stage and WAP will continue to provide admin support.
Wells Area Community Bank
We are waiting for the marketing from Norfolk Credit Union to then promote the savers accounts. WAP are now able with Fakenham Community bank to offer debt Management courses. These courses will also provide WAP with a small income. We are at present agreeing a contract with Norfolk Credit Union.
- BF stated bank not doing very well.
- Board felt this was a number of reasons and to keep pushing it.
- BF to do another press release for the Quay magazine
Blakeney Harbour rooms
Working closely with the Harbour Rooms in Blakeney, WAP have decided to be posted there one day a week. The current projects being run are:
- WAP made the presentation at the Your Parish Your Decision Day, unfortunately due to only having 3 voters against the other groups who all had 5 we did not get the grant. This project has been represented to the Parish Council and Blakeney Together to see if they would like to move it forward or leave it.
- A steering group have been formed to apply for the outstanding community grant of £50,000. They have decided to apply for a community cinema and also youth association.
- Supporting a local artist to set up a gallery in an unused barn, this is a slow project as it relies on funding. The lady has now started to approach local builders for some free advice and possible work.
- Youth project with Holt Youth is now underway and WAP assisted them to get £800 towards set up costs from the Norfolk Youth Grant. WAP will sit on the board for this project but is not actively involved as Holt Youth received a £400,000 grant to deliver the outreach work.
Walsingham Pavilion
WAP attended a meeting with the Walsingham Parish Council to decide whether or not to continue pushing this project forward. It was decided at the meeting that the Pavilion will be changed into a youth shelter. WAP are to spend some time with an Architect to get drawings done of what it would look like and take to the Parish council. The parish council also have some pots of Money that they will use to help fund the project. I have approached RHP the architects involved in the Maltings Project and they are happy to assist with some “free” time designs and advice. Coastal Rowing – Street CATS
A steering group have now been formed and will be meeting at the end of the month at Alderman Peel High school to move this project forward, there will hopefully be some rowing activity in Wells by end of July 2010. |
