AB asked for her apologies to be included to last meeting.
PR asked if on item 2 it was meant to read Under spend instead of Over spend – BF confirmed it was.
PL also confirmed that the AGM happened and was attended reasonably well, people from Burnham Market attended. Unfortunately the meeting clashed with a shoreline meeting.
BF had issued prior to meeting project update but went through each project.
Housing
Fran Marshall from Homes for Wells is working alongside WAP to create a “How to” guide in relation to the Housing Society. WAP are also working with NNRC investigating the cost and need for another Housing needs survey. The cost of this will be around £2000 WAP have around £1500 left in the housing budget after allocations for the How to Guide have been made and possibly Homes for Wells could pay the remaining cost, as this would be beneficial evidence for them in funding bids. It would be a useful source of evidence for WAP and Homes for Wells and may show a difference from the last one which was completed 3 years ago.
This generated some discussion regarding the cost of the needs survey and was it needed as we could possibly use the money elsewhere.
WAP Employment for the future
WAP have been working closely with Scira in talks about Apprenticeships. WAP have liaised with The College of West Anglia in King’s Lynn who specialise in Engineering. In January 2010 Scira, COWA and WAP will get together to plan on paper the initial Apprenticeship for young people working on wind farms, the Apprenticeship will be piloted in Wells and open to young people from Wells and the surrounding communities. WAP introduced Apprenticeships to Scira and also the idea of Apprenticeships in other areas such as Administration and Horticulture. This is an exciting project for WAP and the town. WAP have also been approached by Skira to sit on their board for their community grants scheme.
Walsingham Youth project
This project is going really well and seeing some very positive results. Wells SNT reported a significant decrease in reported incident of crime and calls relating to rowdy nuisance behaviour during the summer holiday period and are really pleased with the behaviour of the young people in Walsingham.
On Sunday they held a Community Funday where the young people played a football match against the police. A BBQ was organised and the meat and BBQ was donated by Arthur Howell, Tesco also supplied some bits and pieces and the day raised £205.00 which will be used on an activity with the young people and also KLFM community appeal.
CATS (Community Action Through Sport)
Due to staff changes at Alderman Peel High School and the summer holidays the CATS project has not progressed since the last project update:
- Met with the committee to discuss ‘Street CATS’. The aim of this would be to establish a sailing and canoeing club which would be led and supervised by Wells SNT on a Friday or Saturday evening. The target group of young people to get involved with Street CATS is the large group that hang around on the Quay. The committee gave this project their full support.
- Recruitment drive for more young people on the committee, WAP and SNT will with the CATS committee present CATS to a group of year 7 students at Alderman Peel High School.
- Two projects brought to offer to the committee, one regarding recycling rubbish during carnival week and one regarding workshops to build things for carnival week. Both are being discussed by committee although they felt the Recycling project to be passed directly to the Green Eco team already established within the school.
Wells For the Future – Maltings Development
Consultants RHP were employed from the interviews in early October. They wasted no time in organising another meeting to present their timeline and ideas. Market research has been taking place in Wells for the past two weeks focussing on young people, shop owners and tourists. A public pop in information session was planned for 10th November, 3 members of the public turned up to discuss concerns, although we did not have many attendees the comments and information brought forward were extremely useful and helpful. The steering group will meet again to discuss at least 5 ideas and designs from RHP short listing them to 3. December 4th will be a public consultation meeting where RHP will present the 3 final ideas to the general public and answer questions and take comments and opinions. There is also a meeting planned with the youth of Wells on December 10th. This project continues to move quickly with WAP being at the centre of communications between parties.
Wells Area Community Bank
Three new volunteers were found and all three have received training. The community bank is now in preparation to launch the Current account; they have a target of 50 new accounts across Norfolk in the first month. Although the foot fall has been slow over the past few weeks, a fresh marketing campaign will go in before and after Christmas promoting the saving accounts alongside the current account.
WAP Debt Management Project
WAP are working currently with The Norfolk Credit Union and CAB to offer a course in debt management. WAP have agreed to take the necessary training to deliver the course, which can then be passed onto the bank volunteers, throughout Wells and Blakeney. The CAB will promote and sign local people onto the class which will be ran in Wells and also in Blakeney. This project is still in early stages but should be in place January 2010.
