Projects overview

Wells Area Partnership supports a number of projects to enable community activity to be developed across the area.  Many of these projects have been developed following on from the Community Survey that was carried out in 2007.
The priority issues that have been identified from research and consultation include the need to support young people, create year-round employment and provide more affordable housing for local people. With these in mind WAP has planned a series of projects to help address local issues, some of which have already been completed and some are in the planning or deliver stages at present.
To address the issue of affordable housing WAP set up Homes for Wells, a local organisation focused on providing affordable homes for rent to local people with a proven connection to the area. Homes for Wells is now running as an independent organisation and no longer needs day to day support from WAP.  The next stage of this project is to roll out this successful model to other villages in housing need.
Other completed projects include the Youth Network which supported and encouraged young people in the area to take an active part in their own well-being and the well-being of the community.  WAP also provided a Community Chest Fund that enabled voluntary groups across the area to access money for activities that were hard to fund.
Current and future WAP projects include:

  • Housing for locals – rolling out the Homes for Wells model in other parishes
  • Community Action Through Sport (CATS) project, designed to reduce anti social behaviour and encourage young people to be more active in the communities of Wells, Walsingham and Blackeney
  • Communication project which aims to increase the take up of community facilities, services, clubs etc
  • Environment projects that include holding Carbon Reduction awareness events, fun days and carrying out a Carbon Emissions Survey to establish the carbon footprint of Wells.
  • Wells For the Future – a long term regeneration project led by a community project group that specifically looks at preserving and enhancing some of the major historical buildings and assets in Wells.
  • Wells Area Community Bank - offering the opportunity to save and borrow money, services provided by Norfolk Credit Union.
