Wells for the Future
Since July 2008 Wells Area Partnership has been part of a project group working with North Norfolk District Council, Wells Community Association and Wells Town Council on a long term regeneration project for Wells. The project group was set up to engage a regeneration consultant to carry out an assessment of all Council owned assets in Wells. This was funded by the North Norfolk Community Partnership and the consultant employed to carry out the work was Blue Fish Regeneration. The consultants brief was written by the project group and we asked them to:
Identify a holistic package of project options that will contribute to and support the longer term economic, social and environmental sustainability of Wells
The ‘Wells for the Future’ document is now publicly available (this is a large file-3.8Mb and will take a little while to load). Follow the link to view this Executive Summary document or pop into the Wells area Partnership office on Mon, Weds or Fridays to pick up a copy. The full consultants report is also available to be viewed at the WAP office.
The report presents some exciting options and opportunities for Wells. To get involved and have your say you can contact the Community Project Manager John Mullen on 01263 516104 john.mullen@north.norfolk.gov.uk.
A Programme Board comprising of key partners such as Wells Town Council, Holkham Estate and the Community Foundation has been established to take forward this process. Minute from their meetings can be viewed at the WAP Office and regular updates will feature in the local press.
Progress So Far…………………………….
.One of the first actions for the Programme Board was to establish a working group to take forward the redevelopment of the Maltings and Sackhouse buildings. A small working group, set up in May 2009 has been working on this long term project. The group consists of representative from WAP, Wells Town Council, Wells Community Association, North Norfolk District Council and the Benjamin Foundation.
The Maltings Project Group is currently working with business consultants and architects from the R H Partnership to create a feasible and finically sustainable business plan that will enable the group to apply for the funding needed to take this major development forward. More information about the Maltings project can be found here.
